HeartSpace is a refuge for people recovering from addiction, trauma and burnout. We believe that cultivating self compassion is an integral part of the recovery process. May this be a space where compassion flourishes, stigma fades, and we all discover the strength and support we need for our recovery and wellbeing.
In her blog, Grace and Grit, Nikki shares personal stories, science-finds and practices that promote self compassion, combat stigma, and empower individuals to approach recovery and support with compassion and love.
Grace and Grit evolved from scribbled notes on post-its, and lists upon lists of ideas that include nuggets of wisdom Nikki has come across in her years of both professional psychology practice and her own recovery. Her intention is to share practical tools, evidence-based research, and personal stories that might inspire hope and foster resilience. From articles exploring the science behind self compassion to practical exercises that nurture self-care, this space aims to equip you with the resources you need to cultivate self compassion in recovery and create a life of meaning and purpose.
Hi friends! I’m Nikki, and I'm so thrilled to have you here at HeartSpace.
A little about me: I am a mom of two incredible kids, a licensed psychologist, a mindfulness and yoga teacher, and a grateful person in recovery from trauma, addiction and professional burnout. I am in a relationship with an amazing guy who is also in recovery. I am a Florida native, raised on the ocean but now living on a farm (that one day will have chickens!).
My story of recovery is a testament to the profound impact that mindfulness and self compassion can have on our lives. On my recovery path I discovered that the key to lasting change lies in embracing a kinder and gentler relationship with ourselves. And while I have already seen so much impact for myself and others through the cultivation of kind attention, I believe I have just begun to touch into the incredible potential that lies within each of us to heal, grow, and thrive.
I invite you to engage with the content, share your thoughts, and connect with our growing community here at HeartSpace. Thank you for joining me as this “one wild and precious life” (Mary Oliver) continues to unfold. And remember - you are not alone, and your path to healing begins in the space of the heart.
The "heart space" is that place within us of kindness and acceptance that knows the truth and is aligned with our authentic self.
Our deepest intention at HeartSpace is to teach and share the practice of mindful self compassion for people recovering from addiction, trauma, mental health challenges and burnout.
Why self compassion? Because we firmly believe that healing starts from within. By cultivating self compassion, we learn to treat ourselves with the same gentleness and understanding that we would offer to a dear friend. It allows us to release self-judgment, shame, and perfectionism, paving the way for authentic healing and recovery.
Nikki's vision for HeartSpace is to create a community of like-minded individuals who are dedicated to embracing self compassion as an essential component of their recovery journey. Here, we will navigate the challenges, celebrate the victories, and support one another with unwavering compassion and understanding.
Join her on this journey of healing, growth, and community as we work together to create a world where every individual in recovery is seen, heard, and supported from a place of love.
